Leading Fancies:

Out Of The Stars is a filly by Zoustar and is the sister of a winner overseas. Her dam has achieved victories over 5f and 6.5f, including as a 2-year-old, and is a half-sister to the useful 2-year-old 5f winner Little Kim. Despite a slow start in a Kempton novice race in April, Out Of The Stars showed promise by successfully landing the odds. There is potential for her to be much better than her current form suggests, and she will be equipped with headgear on this occasion looks a fair price.

Midnight Affair, a filly by Dark Angel, showcased her potential on her debut at Newmarket and confirmed that promise by winning a class 2 event at Beverley over 5f on good to firm ground, finishing 1¼ lengths ahead of Flora of Bermuda and was well on top at the finish. Her trainer is well represented once again but she is the pick of the runners for me.

Crimson Advocate, a half-sister to the talented US winner Money Moves, displayed significant improvement from her debut when she won an 11-runner non-graded event at Gulfstream by 3½ lengths. Broke well and led throughout the race while wearing blinkers. It is likely that she will continue to progress but this is a all together different rest.

Born To Rock, a Soldier’s Call filly, was purchased for €17,000 as a yearling and for 110,000 gns as a 2-year-old. Her dam is a maiden half-sister to the useful 7f-1¼m winner Match Maker and the US 2-year-old Grade 3 1m winner More Than Love. Born To Rock made an impressive winning debut at Yarmouth four weeks ago.

3:05pm: The Kensington Palace Stakes

The Kensington Palace Stakes Handicap is a relatively new addition to the Royal Ascot schedule, making its debut in 2021. This thrilling race is scheduled to take place at 3:05 on Wednesday, 21st June, as part of the second day’s racing at Royal Ascot 2023.

Leading Contenders:

Tamarama showed progress last season, winning at Chelmsford over 10f on her final start for Charles Hills. She has continued to improve under her current yard, winning a 1m handicap at Kempton two weeks ago. Despite a 5 lb higher mark, she shouldn’t be discounted, especially with Dettori riding.

Crystal Caprice, trained by Sir Michael Stoute and ridden by Ryan Moore, swiftly developed into a progressive filly last year. She completed a hat-trick in a 1m handicap in September and secured a good third-place finish at listed level. Although she finished fourth in an Ayr listed event over 10f on her reappearance, needs to defy a career-high mark back at this level.

Sly Madam returned to winning ways on heavy ground at Windsor over 1m in April. Creditable performances  recent starts, except for a race at Leicester where the quick ground and conditions didn’t suit her. Good jockey claiming a valuable 5lbs, she has a good chance and is well weighted based on her previous run at Ascot. Would enjoy further rain and could perform well at an attractive price.

Divine Light is a lightly-raced mare who secured a victory at Marseilles Vivaux over 10f in June. She had a respectable performance in listed company at Deauville over 1m in her final start in France last summer. Joined a yard known for their success with new recruits, looks interesting back in handicaps.

3:40pm: Duke of Cambridge Stakes (Group 2)

The Duke of Cambridge Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in Great Britain exclusively for fillies and mares aged four years or older. It is held at Ascot over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 meters) as part of the prestigious Royal Ascot meeting, taking place in June. Originally known as the Windsor Forest Stakes, it was renamed in 2013 to honour Prince William, Duke of Cambridge. The race was established to encourage the retention of fillies and mares in racing. With its rich history and competitive field, the Duke of Cambridge Stakes adds excitement and anticipation to the second day of the Royal Ascot event.

Key Trends for Duke of Cambridge Stakes Winners:

Price: 4 out of the last 12 winners were favourites or joint favourites, and 7 out of 12 winners finished in the top 3 in the betting.

Leading Fancies:

Jumbly concluded her time with Harry & Roger Charlton by winning the Valiant Stakes on the round course. After being sold for 1,250,000 gns, she made a promising return from a 10-month break with a second-place finish in the Lanwades Stud Stakes at the Curragh. Has the ideal profile for this and looks the one to beat for for the Joseph O`Brien team.

Prosperous Voyage, who was narrowly second in the 1000 Guineas last year, regained her form by winning the Falmouth. Her victory in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom by a ¾ length from Random Harvest showcased her quality. She is a strong contender however I`m not a fan of horses having a hard race at Epsom then coming her and given her profile could just be vulnerable on that count.

Grande Dame, Getting better with age. Claimed a listed race victory at Sandown last summer and finished third in the Sun Chariot at Newmarket to end her campaign. With relatively few miles on her, it wouldn’t be surprising if she continues to improve and looks a better angle for each way support than some of the more exposed types in the field.

Leading Fancies:

Luxembourg, achieved a third top-level victory in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh, showed great determination in fending off Bay Bridge. In what could be a good hour or so for Ryan Moore he is taken to give the the Jockey another group 1 success at Royal Ascot.

Adayar, the winner of the Derby and King George in 2021, had limited outings last year and narrowly lost to Bay Bridge in the Champion Stakes over the same course and distance. He comfortably returned to winning form in the rearranged Gordon Richards Stakes and looks the main danger to the selection.

Mostahdaf, the winner of two Group 3 races in 2022, struggled in testing conditions during his final start in the Arc. Bounced back with an impressive win in the Group 3 Neom Turf Cup at King Abdulaziz. Didn’t replicate that form in the Dubai Sheema Classic but is high class on his day and could be the one to pick up a place.

The Royal Hunt Cup is a renowned flat handicap horse race open to horses aged three years and older in Great Britain. Held at Ascot, the race covers a distance of 1 mile (1,609 meters). It showcases the skill and versatility of both seasoned and emerging racehorses as they compete for victory.

Leading Contenders:

Perotto, the winner of the Britannia over the course and distance at the 2021 Royal meeting, had a slightly underwhelming season last year. However, he showed promise in his reappearance for new trainer Roger Varian, finishing seventh in the Victoria Cup over 7 furlongs. Returning to 1 mile should suit him.

Ghaly, a lightly-raced 7-year-old, showcased his best form when winning 1-mile handicaps at York and Newmarket in the latter part of 2022. Oisin Murphy has been booked to ride for the yard that claimed victory in this race in 2021, and I`m a big fan of runners from this yard after a lay off, intriguing contender.

Bless Him, the winner of the 2017 Britannia over the course and distance, proved his capabilities in top-end handicaps last year. After an unlucky seventh-place finish in this race, he went on to win the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket and secure second place in the International here. Shaped in 2 runs this season like this was the plan and Jaime Spencer a good man to have on your side in these handicaps.

Reach For The Moon, who finished second in the Hampton Court Stakes at this meeting a year ago, had a poor performance in soft-ground Newmarket Group 3 on his reappearance, likely due to pulling too hard in blinkers. Will need headgear removed and a switch to handicap company to make a differece.

5:35pm: Queens Vase

Taking place at Ascot, this challenging race covers a distance of 1 mile, 6 furlongs, and 34 yards (2,847 meters). With its unique blend of stamina and speed, the Queen’s Vase tests the capabilities and endurance of the talented young horses competing for victory.

Key Trends for Queen’s Vase Winners:

Age: The race is exclusively for 3-year-olds.

Price: 5 out of the last 12 winners were favourites, while 11 out of 12 winners finished in the top 3 in the betting.

Last Run: 5 out of the last 12 winners won their previous race before the Queen’s Vase, and 10 out of 12 winners had their last run within the last 47 days.

Leading Fancies:

Gregory made a highly impressive winning start and further solidified his potential with a comfortable victory in a listed race at Goodwood in his last outing. Stayed on well that day confirming potential for these types of trips Frankie Dettori in the saddle and a worthy favourite if not a little shorter than was expected.

Saint George is a progressive horse who enters this race seeking a third consecutive win, following a convincing victory in an 8-runner event at Doncaster. While this is a tougher assignment, there is a possibility for further improvement and looks fair each way value.

Peking Opera, after winning at the second attempt, showed continued improvement on his return at Navan, with Etna Rosso finishing behind him. With more potential to be unlocked at this distance and the fact he represents top connections who would not be running here if did not think was up to this level then has to be considered a strong contender.

Maximum Impact comes from a strong pedigree and demonstrated his ability to handle very deep ground when he won impressively by 12 lengths on debut at Leicester in April. Stepping up in class, he showed further improvement by comfortably defeating Action Point and three others over the same course and distance last month. It is surprising to see him fitted with a tongue tie now, but he sets a high standard and the one to beat.

World Of Darcy made a perfect start at Pontefract last month and was supported in the betting. With a stablemate winning since then, World Of Darcy performed admirably in the National Stakes at Sandown, finishing as the best of the rest behind the talented Elite Status, trainer does well with these types.

Barnwell Boy, an early foal, displayed the acceleration of a promising juvenile when winning decisively on debut at Goodwood over 6 furlongs a month ago. The drop to 5 furlongs should not be an issue considering the speed he showed, and he appears to be a bright prospect with a lot of potential.

Johannes Brahms, a Siyouni colt purchased for 200,000 gns as a yearling, is a half-brother to a 5-furlong winner named Dream By Day. Overcoming inexperience, Johannes Brahms justified his favoritism and won at Naas last month. Although the race did not unfold as expected, the time recorded was impressive, and with strong connections has to be respected.
