Tennis betting means backing a player, a score or a statistic in a match or tournament, and the three things that decide whether a bet is good value are the price, the market and the settlement rules. Tennis has no draw, so every match market is a straight two-way choice, which makes small price differences and retirement rules matter more than in most sports. Tennis Betting Odds

Small price gaps matter in tennis betting because so many bets are on short-priced favourites. Take a heavy favourite offered at 1.15 by one bookmaker and 1.20 by another. On a £100 stake that is £15 profit against £20 profit for the same result, and the gap adds up over a season of regular bets.

Odds also carry the bookmaker’s margin, its built-in edge. In a two-way match market, convert each price to an implied probability (1 divided by the decimal odds) and add them up. Two players priced at 1.50 and 2.60 give 66.7% and 38.5%, a total of 105.1%, so the margin is about 5.1%.

Here is how to use that. If you rate the 2.60 player as a 45% chance, a £10 bet returns £26 if it wins, so the expected return is 0.45 × £26 = £11.70 against a £10 stake, a value edge of £1.70. If you think he is only a 35% chance, the same bet has a negative expected return. Your own estimate has to beat the bookmaker’s, and it has to do so after the margin.

Tournament Coverage

Professional tennis runs for most of the year, so check that a site prices more than the Grand Slams. A good tennis bookmaker covers the ATP Tour, the WTA Tour, the ATP Challenger Tour (the step below the main tour), ITF events and team competitions such as the Davis Cup.

Lower-level matches usually carry bigger margins and lower betting limits. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) polices corruption in the sport, and its Q2 2025 update shows that all ten match alerts it received from the regulated betting industry that quarter came from Challenger, WTA 125/250 and ITF-level events. The ITIA itself warns against reading too much into that split, because there are far more matches at the bottom of the pyramid.

In-Play Betting Markets

In-play (live) betting lets you bet while the match is under way, with prices updating after almost every point. Typical live markets include the winner of the next game, the winner of the current set and the exact score of the current game.

Many sites add live streaming, though availability depends on the event, your country and often on having a funded account. A stream usually runs a few seconds behind the data the bookmaker uses, so markets can suspend before you see the point finish. Treat in-play as the fastest way to lose money as well as to find value, and keep stakes small.

Retirement and Walkover Rules

Bookmakers do not all settle tennis bets the same way when a player retires injured, so read the rules before you bet. Broadly, one group voids match bets unless a winner is already established, while another settles the bet once at least one set has been completed. A walkover, where a player withdraws before a ball is struck, normally voids match bets.

Tennis Tournaments

Tennis betting is busiest around the four Grand Slams, but the ATP and WTA tours supply matches to bet on in nearly every week of the season. Each Grand Slam differs by surface, and surface changes how you should read the odds.

Men’s Grand Slam singles matches are best of five sets, while women’s matches are best of three. Since the format was unified in 2022, all four majors play a 10-point tiebreak if the final set reaches 6-6 (the Australian Open had used it since 2019). Most bookmakers count a tiebreak as one game for total games bets, but check the rules.

What the 2026 Slams Showed About Outrights

Outright favourites fail often, so spreading risk across a draw is usually wiser than backing one name. At the 2026 French Open, two-time reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz withdrew before the start with a wrist injury, and defending women’s champion Coco Gauff lost in the third round. Alexander Zverev and Mirra Andreeva took the titles.

At the US Open, Elena Rybakina beat two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in the women’s final, and Zverev beat Ben Shelton for the men’s title. The practical lesson is to check the withdrawal terms on any ante-post bet before you place it, because an injury before round one is the most common way a long-range bet goes wrong.

Betting on Wimbledon Tennis

Wimbledon tennis betting runs every summer, with markets from the first round all the way to the final. Grass produces quicker points and more aces, so big servers are often shorter in the market than their ranking suggests.

Compare the Wimbledon odds for the matches that interest you. Remember that the grass season is short, so form from the previous year on grass is often more telling than form on other surfaces.

US Open Tennis Betting

US Open tennis betting is a big market. Flushing Meadows hosts the final Grand Slam of the calendar year, and the best players arrive after the North American hard-court swing. Once the draw is made you can bet on matches, sets, games and points.

French Open Betting

Roland Garros is the home of the French Open, and clay rewards patient baseline players. Slower courts mean longer rallies and often longer matches, so total sets and total games markets deserve a closer look. Because clay specialists can be priced on overall reputation, a player’s clay record is often the better guide than their ranking.

Australian Open Tennis Betting Odds

The Australian Open is the first chance of the year to bet on a major. The next edition runs from 11 to 31 January 2027 at Melbourne Park, with the main draw starting on 17 January, according to the LTA.

Start with the men’s and women’s singles outright markets, then check match betting prices to find the best odds on each player in their matches. Early-season form is hard to read after the winter break, so lean on hard-court results from the previous autumn.

Season-Ending Finals and Other Big Events

Outside the majors, the ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 events, such as Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Rome and Paris, offer deep markets. The back-to-back hard-court events at Indian Wells and Miami are known as the Sunshine Double, and in 2026 both Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner completed it.

The season ends with the Nitto ATP Finals, which the official site lists for 15 to 22 November 2026 at the Inalpi Arena in Turin. Eight players are split into two round-robin groups of four, so you can bet on group winners as well as the champion. The WTA Finals are due in Indian Wells in November, after the event was moved from Riyadh, according to Sports Illustrated’s calendar round-up.

Popular Tennis Betting Markets

The most popular tennis betting markets are match winner, set betting, handicaps and total games, with tournament outrights for longer-term bets. Here is what each one means and when it is useful.

Match Winner: You pick who will win the match, and it is the most popular market. You can back a player as a single or combine several into an accumulator (a bet where every selection must win). Three selections at 1.50 return £33.75 from a £10 stake (1.5 × 1.5 × 1.5 × 10), but if each is a 2/3 chance, all three win only about 30% of the time. A site with acca insurance on this type of bet can be useful, so check the terms.

Set Betting: This is a bet on the exact score in sets. In a best-of-three match there are four possible outcomes (2-0 or 2-1 for either player), and in a best-of-five there are six (3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 for either player). Predicting the correct score pays a bigger price than the match winner market, but it is harder to land.

Handicap Betting: A handicap gives the underdog a head start in games, or the favourite a deficit, to make a lopsided match more even. If the favourite is -4.5 games, they must win by five or more games in total. A 6-3 6-4 win is 12 games to 7, a margin of five, so it covers. A 6-4 6-4 win is 12 to 8, a margin of four, so it does not, even though the favourite won in straight sets.

If you back the underdog at +4.5, you win if they win the match or lose by four games or fewer.

Total Sets / Games: You bet over or under a line for the number of sets or games in the match. A straight-sets 6-4 6-4 win is 20 games, so it would miss an over 22.5 bet. A 7-6 6-4 win is 23 games if the tiebreak counts as one game (13 in the first set, 10 in the second), so it would land.

Number of Aces: You bet over or under a set number of aces in the match, or on one player’s total. Grass and fast indoor courts tend to produce more aces than clay, and strong returners reduce a big server’s tally.

Tournament Winner: You back a player to win the men’s or women’s title. You can bet win only or, where offered, each-way, which pays part of the return if your player reaches the later rounds. Each-way terms on tennis vary a lot between bookmakers and some do not offer them.

Quarters Betting: A big draw is split into four quarters, and you bet on who will emerge from one section. The winner of a quarter reaches the semi-finals, so this can also be listed as “To Make the Semis”. Prices are shorter than outrights, but you only need your player to get through a quarter of the draw.

Other markets: Many sites also price the first set winner, a player to win a set, whether there will be a tiebreak and live game-by-game markets. Margins are usually higher on these than on the main match winner line, so they suit experienced bettors.

Common Tennis Betting Mistakes

Most losing tennis bets come from a handful of avoidable errors rather than bad luck. These are the ones we would fix first.

• Ignoring settlement rules. A retirement in the second set can void one bookmaker’s bet and settle another’s. Read the tennis rules page before staking, not after.
• Trusting rankings over surface. A top-five player can be a poor price on clay or grass. Check results on the surface in the last 12 months.
• Stacking favourites in accumulators. Four 1.25 shots look safe but pay only 2.44 times the stake combined, and the chance of all four winning is well under 50% if each is an 80% chance (about 41%).
• Betting lower-tier matches blind. Challenger and ITF events have thinner information, higher margins and, as the ITIA’s alerts show, more integrity concern than the major tournaments.
• Chasing in-play after a lost set. Prices move fast, and “he will come back” is not an edge. Set a stake limit before the match starts.
