ITV Horse Racing Tips – Best Bets – May 20th

13:50 Newbury – BetVictor Carnarvon Stakes – 6f

All eyes will be on Noble Style, who remained unbeaten in three outings as a juvenile. Despite not staying in the 2000 Guineas, Noble Style showed promise for a drop back to sprinting. Coming from a family mostly consisting of sprinters, this strong contender is expected to excel back over 6f. Shaquille, with an entry in the Commonwealth Cup, should not be taken lightly after an impressive comeback victory at Newmarket. Rabaah also holds potential for improvement.

14:05 Newmarket – Aspall Cyder Handicap – 1m

Acotango, who displayed improved form by winning a nursery debut at Kempton in September. In a solid reappearance second at Haydock over 1m, he finished between two progressive types with both the winner and third winning since along with the sixth in that race who has also subsequently. With a previous victory against re-opposing Gulmarg, Acotango emerges as a strong contender.

14:25 Newbury – Al Rayyan Stakes – 1m 4f

Yibir, a high-class performer, closed off 2022 with a victory in the Group 2 Princess of Wales’s Stakes at Newmarket. With strong claims on these terms, he looks set for another successful campaign.  4-year-old filly Haskoy, who finished second in the St Leger, and the promising Israr and Gaassee add some depth to the race.

Tip: Yibir

14:40 Newmarket – Aspall Suffolk Draught Cyder Handicap – 6f

Washington Heights, showcased potential by finishing third in the Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar (6f) last season. Although not at his best on reappearance at Thirsk, the Kevin Ryan runner bounced back with a solid second-place finish over C&D at the Guineas meeting. In a wide-open contest, Rogue Lightning, who made a winning debut on the July Course is just one of many with claims.

Tip: Washington Heights each way

15:00 Newbury – BetVictor London Gold Cup – 1m 2f

Bertinelli, an AW maiden winner at Dundalk, improved again with a second-place finish in a 1¼m Cork conditions race on his reappearance, that form feels solid for the context of this and  is expected to progress further. Desert Hero, who holds a Derby entry, and the easy Newmarket handicap winner Royal Rhyme are the main threats.

15:15 Newmarket – Aspall Blush Cyder Handicap – 7f

Godolphin hold a strong hand here and While Striking Star is respected after a good effort at Newmarket, the preference lies with Changing Colours. Having won a 6f minor event at Haydock in June, Changing Colours showed promise even when finishing seventh in a handicap at Newmarket. The step up in trip looks favourable and with a 3lb claim from the jockey he looks poised to go close.
