Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star Kylian Mbappe has reportedly sent a letter to the club expressing his decision not to activate his contract extension beyond 2024. The move has opened the door for a potential transfer to Real Madrid this summer. Despite being surprised and angered by the manner of the announcement, PSG is still eager to extend Mbappe’s deal. However, if positive signs are not received, the club may consider selling him in the coming weeks.

The news has caused a stir in the football world, with Spanish outlet Marca emphasizing the possibility of Mbappe joining Real Madrid. The Spanish club, in need of a striker after Karim Benzema’s departure, is viewed as one of the few clubs capable of meeting Mbappe’s wage demands.

PSG could demand a world-record fee of at least £160m for the player, despite him having only one year left on his current contract. The New York Times suggests that Mbappe’s decision could force PSG to consider selling him this summer to avoid losing him for free in 2024. If a transfer were to take place, the price tag is expected to exceed $200m and possibly eclipse the current world record.

PSG officials were reportedly surprised by Mbappe’s letter, learning of it from a French news outlet that claimed to have received a copy before the club itself. Neither Mbappe’s spokesperson nor PSG representatives have commented on the situation or how the club was informed of Mbappe’s intentions.
