Book Of Tales won a very weak handicap 6 days ago and prior to that had started to look exposed, will need the blinkers to work once again and looks worth taking on. Pfingstberg is bred to be much better than a 53 rated horse but given the middle-distance pedigree was always likely to need more time. Last time wasn’t without promise despite the 19 length defeat and it’s interesting Jamie Spencer now comes in for a ride on a course he does particularly well at.
Another Romance won on reappearance last year and given the profile here is expected to be fully tuned up first time up. Wasn’t beaten far in a listed event when last seen and the return to handicap company should enable him to get his head in front once again. His yard is going really well at the moment with a 27% strike rate in the last 2 weeks and Jack Mitchell is a positive jockey booking with a 30% strike rate with the yard in the last year.
Ran a really good race last time finishing second in a 0-105 here over a mile, fully effective over 7f and has proven to be able to be competitive off a mark this high in the past and should be thereabouts in an open-looking race.
Good winner here 26 days ago over course and distance, the 4lb rise in the weights looks more than fair for that victory and this is actually a step down in grade today. Rock solid profile and will be surprised if he does not take this.
Blindedbythelights looks like a typical progressive Sir Mark Prescott type, however, he faces a tougher task once again here and is short enough. The Richard Hannon-trained Great Bedwyn will find this much easier than the class 3 York handicap where he was beaten only 4 lengths. Down 2lbs for that effort and looks a fair price against the favourite.
Showed enough promise in novice company and on handicap debut to suggest he has a level of ability to be competitive at this type of mark. Comes from a shrewd enough yard and was likely to have needed the run-on soft ground on reappearance recently. Races off a mark of 67 with the jockey’s claim and this is easily his best chance to date.
Has slipped down to a nice mark now and showed plenty of promise when a good third at Ascot on return this year. Generally, was running consistently in better races than this last season and is expected to go close here.
