Premier League announce nominees for Manager of the Season award

The Premier League has announced the nominees for the Barclay’s Manager of the Season award.

Mikel Arteta

has steered the Gunners to a rather surprising charge. Nobody predicted Arsenal to still be in contention of winning the league with just 2 games to go – well apart from maybe Ty from AFTV!

Arsenal top the away form table and have scored an impressive 83 goals under Arteta’s stewardship.

Roberto De Zerbi

The Italian manager assumed control at the Amex in September 2022 and has led the team to 13 victories in 28 Premier League matches.

Throughout this period, the team has scored 55 goals, exceeding their previous record for Premier League points. Additionally, they are currently among the leading contenders to secure a spot in either the Europa League or Europa Conference League for the upcoming season, marking their first-ever qualification for these competitions.

Unai Emery

Since becoming Head Coach in October, the Spaniard has led Aston Villa to an impressive turnaround. The club was 16th in the Premier League when he took over but rapidly began accumulating points.

Emery’s debut game, a 3-1 win against Manchester United, established the tone for his tenure, and the team has consistently progressed since then.

In recognition of their excellent performance in April, the 51-year-old was awarded the Premier League Manager of the Month. Villa’s recent 2-1 victory over Tottenham keeps them in the running for European football as they approach the final two matches.

Pep Guardiola

Guardiola has an outstanding record, securing 27 victories in 35 games with an impressive goal difference of +61. As a result, currently sit at the top of the table with a four-point lead over second-placed Arsenal.

The Catalonian is a strong contender to join the esteemed company of Sir Alex Ferguson as only the second manager in Premier League history to win four Barclays Manager of the Season awards. Guardiola previously received this recognition in the 2017/18, 2018/19, and 2020/21 seasons.

In addition to league success, City are poised to compete in two significant finals. On June 3, City face Manchester United in the FA Cup final, followed by the Champions League final against Inter Milan on June 10.

Eddie Howe

After successfully keeping Newcastle United clear of relegation in the previous season and securing an 11th place finish, Howe has impressively led the team to third place in the current Premier League campaign. With three games left, their top-six finish is guaranteed.

Howe recently achieved a notable milestone of 250 appearances as a Premier League manager during Newcastle’s 3-1 victory against Southampton at St. James’ Park. His goal now is to guide Newcastle towards their best league finish since the 2002/03 season, when they claimed third place under the management of Sir Bobby Robson.

Marco Silva

Silva has the chance to break another Fulham record by reaching a milestone of highest points tally ever by a Fulham manager. The Portuguese has written his name in to Fulham history after just two full seasons as one of their greatest managers.

Fulham have won a record 15 Premier League games under Marco Silva’s watch, a club record that could be extended with 2 games to go.
