Horse Racing Tips – Best Bets – May 6th

Our racing expert from the Punters Preview  provides us some horses to note and his best horse racing tips each and every day. Today we have racing from Goodwood, Thirsk, Uttoxeter, Doncaster, Hexham, Naas, Cork and Day 2 of the Guineas meeting at Newmarket with the highlight being the 2000 Guineas.

1.40 Newmarket Stowell 15/2

With the threat of significant rainfall at Newmarket it could pay to focus on horses who we know have proven themselves under such conditions which could also impact how the course rides in terms of the low bias being affected. Stowell showed nothing on stable debut in October and has since been given another lengthy break.  His best form however gives him a big chance in this lower grade and William Buick looks a very positive jockey booking, wont mind the ground soft if not extreme which is unlikely early.

2.15 Newmarket Pedrika 6/1

With slight concerns about Azure Blue and Gale Force Maya would be at there best if the ground was to turn soft then I think Pdrika looks a viable alternative. The more rain the more her chances will increase and there was a lot to like about her second at Bath 2 weeks ago to suggest she is well up to this level.

2.50 Newmarket Saint Lawrence 20/1  – Admiral D 8/1

With us not being certain about the draw here it could be worth taking one high and one low. Saint Lawrence will come on for his seasonal reappearance in a group 3 here, he has not had many chances in handicaps in recent years especially under suitable straight track conditions. Admiral D could be a Jamie Spencer special here and yes he might arrive on the scene late doing all his best work in the closing stages but the cheekpieces look a good move and he is they type who is jockey does well on. Won’t need to find much based on reappearance run when 5^th in a handicap here.

Each Way 3.25 Newmarket Great Max 25/1 5 places 

Jimi Hendrix was a good winner for us last time but given the price difference, turn around in the weights and the fact we can expect Great Max to come on a fair bit for that first run for the excellent Alice Haynes then it`s the latter who looks to represent some each way value in a wide-open contest.

4.00 Newmarket Equilateral 10/1

A couple at the front of the market have to prove themselves under likely conditions and with that in mind Equilateral looks a fair each way price. The now 8 tear old ran well enough in 3 starts over at Meydan in the winter. A fast run 5f with an emphasis on stamina will play to his strengths and he could be finishing off when many have cried enough here.

Nap 4.40 Newmarket Auguste Rodin 7/4

A little bit unoriginal however with the likely conditions expected to make this more of stamina test than initially expected it`s really hard to look away from the Aidan O`Brien runner. An impressive winner Futurity he realised the soft conditions that day and clearly brings the best form based on that and his Leopardstown run the time before.

Next Best 5.15 Newmarket Almaty Star

The Roger Varian runner is expected to build on his 3 runs in novice company now stepping into handicaps off what looks a workable mark. He pulled clear of those behind last time and will appreciate soft conditions back on turf.

5.50 Newmarket Striking Star

This looks between the front 3 in the betting, Divine Libra is a nice type who comes and was impressive on heavy ground at Catterick however marginal preference is for the Appleby / Buick runner Striking Star. He finished behind a very nice horse at Doncaster on reappearance this year and can be expected to build on that effort here.
