1.15 Newmarket Forca Timao 25/1
A wide-open contest to kick things off at Newmarket this weekend and it`s anyone’s guess really how these 3-year-olds have progressed. Forca Timao has not been seen since winning a Novice event nearly a year ago and will have to step up considerably however its interesting his high-profile owners pitch him in this race and could offer some each way value.
Each Way 1.30 Goodwood Reve Detoiles 40/1 Bet Goodwin
Could just be type to spring a surprise here, bit of guesswork in this 2-year-old race but that is compensated in the price and he ran well enough on debut until getting tired late. Trainer / Jockey 46% strike rate.
1.50 Newmarket Native Trail 6/5
Looks to have been found a good opportunity here in the Group 2. A Group 1 winner last season he tends to start the season well, the pick on ratings, back to optimum trip of a mile. First time wind opp and Appleby / Buick as usual are amongst the winners.
2.25 Newmarket Majestic Pride 85/40
In what hopefully will be a good afternoon for Buick and Appleby Majestic Pride is expected to take another step forward in this Listed contest. He looks to have plenty more progression to come when successful in a course and distance handicap 17 days ago.
3.00 Newmarket Star Of Orion 5/1
Ralph Beckett and Rossa Ryan consistently find the winners enclosure with a 22% strike rate in the last couple of years and they look to have good claims of adding to that tally here. Star Of Orion seems to save some of his best form for Newmarket and 92 is a workable mark based on last season’s best form.
3.35 Newmarket Hurricane Lane 6/4
William Buick keeps the faith with Hurricane Lane and that’s enough evidence for me to suggest his run at Newbury 13 days ago can be forgiven for whatever reason. It`s interesting connections bring him back out so quickly and his overall level of form has him some way clear of his opposition. Cheekpieces go on for the first time.
4.10 Newmarket Indispensable 4/1
Soprano looks a early time for a trainer who does well with his juveniles but given the nature of the race she is short enough. William Haggas and Tom Marquand always have to be respected and the Cheveley Park filly Indispensable looks a promising type on paper. She is a January filly and makes plenty of appeal on pedigree.
Next Best 4.20 Goodwood Mudskipper 8/1 Unibet
Looks worth giving another chance to now on a more suitable surface and with the first run of the season under his belt. Showed plenty of promise in 3 starts last season including a good second here. Trainer / Jockey 7 from 20.
4.45 Newmarket Star Of Cassandra 14/1
Infinite Cosmos and Sahara Mist both showed plenty of promise on debut and looks very nice types for the future however both are well found in the market as expected and with it hard to split the pair I’m happy to look at bigger priced runners. The Gosden team look like they could have a nice filly in the shape of Star Of Cassandra and this Seas The Stars filly could surprise at a nice price.
5.20 Newmarket Hafeet Alain 9/2
This previous course and distance winner has slipped to a nice mark of 87 after a pretty inconsistent spell of form on the all weather this winter. He showed a bit more promise last time at Lingfield and the return to a straight mile on turf on decent ground is very much in his favour.
Nap 7.20 Newcastle All The Kings Men 5/4 Bet Zone
Trainer George Boughey is in cracking from at the moment with 6 winners in the last couple of weeks. He does really well with his Newcastle runners also with a 24% strike rate. Jockey Ben Curtis takes over in the saddle tonight who not only himself has a healthy 24%-win ratio himself he also has a 29% strike rate when riding for the yard. The horse himself backs things up further after running really well last time a stronger handicap than this. Likely to be very hard to beat.
