Noble Yeats (IRE) A top-class chaser who made history by winning this race two years ago as a 7-year-old. Despite carrying a significantly higher weight last year, he displayed his stamina by finishing fourth. He has recently been campaigned over hurdles, winning the Cleeve before a midfield finish in the Stayers’ Hurdle last month. He holds each-way claims once again.

Nassalam (FR) Caught the eye with a fourth-place finish in the Grand Sefton here in November and showed improved form with blinkers, winning the Welsh National emphatically over Christmas. However, his Gold Cup run was disappointing, and carrying a big weight here presents a tough challenge.

Coko Beach (FR) This likeable grey has been in excellent form this campaign, winning the Troytown before a strong second in the Becher here. He performed well in Cross Country, winning at Punchestown in February, although he has struggled to stay in contention in the last two renewals of this race from lower marks.

Capodanno (FR) regained winning form with a victory in the Grade 2 Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham in January. Despite a slightly disappointing performance in the Ryanair last month, his form remains solid. However, he seemed to lack stamina in this race last year.

I Am Maximus (FR) Displayed remarkable stamina in winning last season’s Irish National. He has improved this season, winning two out of his four starts, notably defeating Vanillier in the Bobbyjo in February. Although his jumping is a concern, he possesses class.

Minella Indo (IRE) The 2021 Gold Cup hero returned from a seven-month break to win a Grade 3 at Punchestown in October. Although he finished fourth in the Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham in December, there is a suspicion that this 11-year-old may find a few rivals too strong.

Corach Rambler (IRE) Emulated his stablemate One For Arthur by winning this race impressively last year, with Vanillier finishing second. His repeat bid appears to have been a target, especially after his strong third-place finish in last month’s Gold Cup. He looks well-weighted and has plenty to offer.

Janidil (FR) Trained by Willie Mullins, this 10-year-old won the Grade 2 Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park last season. However, his recent performances have been underwhelming, including a disappointing run in last month’s Stayers’ Hurdle at the Festival. There are doubts about his stamina returning to chasing.

Stattler (IRE) Stattler quickly established himself as a high-class novice over fences, winning the National Hunt Chase two seasons ago. However, his performances this campaign have been underwhelming. He finished a distant fourth over Cross Country fences at Punchestown in February.

Mahler Mission (IRE) An improved model in his switch to chasing, Mahler Mission showed his potential when leading until departing two out in last season’s National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham. He showed sharpness in his return, finishing a fine second in the Coral Gold Cup in December. Connections are keen to keep him fresh for this race, and he is considered a big player.

Delta Work (FR) Having finished third here two years ago, Delta Work landed his second consecutive Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham. Despite unseating back here 12 months ago, he should be sharper after a spin in a Grade 2 Hurdle at Navan in February, especially with first-time blinkers enlisted.

Foxy Jacks (IRE) Foxy Jacks hit top form during the second half of last year, winning the Midlands National at Kilbeggan and then triumphing in a Cross Country contest at Cheltenham in December. Although he finished fourth over hurdles since, he needs to minimize errors in this race.

Galvin (IRE) A very smart chaser with a strong record at Cheltenham, Galvin was runner-up behind stablemate Delta Work in last season’s Cross Country Chase. While his efforts this winter suggest he retains plenty of ability, it’s worth noting he unseated at the first in this race 12 months ago.

Farouk D’alene (FR) Trained by Gordon Elliott, this 9-year-old won twice over fences as a novice, including a Grade 2 in early 2022. However, his jumping in this sphere has been unconvincing, and he didn’t mark himself as a leading candidate for this race when pulled up in last month’s Pertemps at Cheltenham.

Eldorado Allen (FR) Eldorado Allen, a grey capable of smart form on his day over fences, finished fourth in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury in December. However, he was well beaten in a rare start over hurdles at Plumpton in January and was pulled up in the Ultima at Cheltenham since. Others are preferred.

Ain’t That A Shame (IRE) Despite failing for stamina in last year’s renewal, Ain’t That A Shame showed a return to form when winning the Thyestes Chase in January. However, concerns about his suitability for this trip persist.

Vanillier (FR) The Albert Bartlett winner in 2021, Vanillier ran a strong race from a long way back when finishing second to Corach Rambler 12 months ago. With a 9 lb advantage over his old rival, he’s an interesting contender after a good second in the Bobbyjo in February.

Mr Incredible (IRE) Although sometimes quirky, there’s no doubting Mr Incredible’s ability. He was placed in the Classic Chase and Kim Muir, and returned with a solid second in the Midlands National last month.

Run Wild Fred (IRE) A smart novice chaser, Run Wild Fred fell in consecutive Nationals and his record has been inconsistent since. He pulled up in the Ultima at Cheltenham 32 days ago, making others more persuasive.

Latenightpass A multiple point winner, is well proven over the National fences, having won the 2022 Foxhunters. His recent success in a Cross Country discipline at Cheltenham makes him an interesting runner for Dan Skelton, especially after his latest spin over hurdles.

Minella Crooner (IRE) A useful chaser, Minella Crooner returned with a win in a 4-runner listed chase at Wexford and finished third in a Tramore Grade 3 on New Year’s Day. However, he struggled since, and it’s uncertain if he’ll relish this test, especially considering his performances beyond 3 miles.

Adamantly Chosen (IRE) This 7-year-old resumed winning ways in a 5-runner Down Royal chase last month but hasn’t fully tested his stamina at this trip. There are definite reservations about whether he wants this far, so others are preferred.

Mac Tottie Won twice over the National fences during the 2021/22 campaign and added another victory on his return on Boxing Day. However, his performances over hurdles/fences since have been below his best, and stamina is a concern with this significant increase in trip.

Chemical Energy (IRE) An easy winner of his first two starts over fences, Chemical Energy produced a career-best effort when runner-up in the NH Chase at the Festival last term. However, he didn’t get home in the Irish National thereafter and has been absent since finishing midfield in the Kerry equivalent last summer. This race may stretch him.

Limerick Lace (IRE) a smart mare, is enjoying a successful season, including a Grade 2 Mares’ Chase win at the Festival last month. Interesting she’s the choice of Mark Walsh, and she’s looking to be the first mare since Nickel Coin in 1951 to win this race.

Meetingofthewaters (IRE) Well-served by an increase in stamina, Meetingofthewaters won a 27-runner Leopardstown handicap over Christmas and was a cracking third in last month’s Ultima Handicap at Cheltenham. Further progress is likely for this top stable contender.

The Goffer (IRE) Lightly raced this term, The Goffer shaped better than the distance beaten suggests in the Ultima Handicap at the Festival 32 days ago. It’s possible he’ll be sharper with that run under his belt, and he’s on a workable mark, although this is a sterner assignment.

Roi Mage (FR) Made a good fist of things when seventh 12 months ago. Although he produced solid efforts since, the last 12-year-old winner of this race dates back 20 years.

Glengouly (FR) Cemented a positive start to the season with a solid second in the Thyestes Chase at Gowran in January. However, he needs to settle better up this markedly increased trip after being well held in a Plate Handicap at Cheltenham.

Galia Des Liteaux (FR) A low-mileage mare, Galia Des Liteaux showed another dimension to her game when second in the Classic Chase at Warwick in January. Despite not performing at her best at Exeter since, she remains with untapped potential over marathon trips.

Panda Boy (IRE) a smart chaser, finished fifth in last season’s Irish National and stayed on for second behind Meetingofthewaters at Leopardstown in December. This test looks tailor-made for him, considering his solid fourth over hurdles in February.

Eklat De Rire (FR) Although lightly raced since unseating in the Brown Advisory at Cheltenham three years ago, Eklat De Rire showed promise when runner-up in a 4-runner chase at Fairyhouse in February. However, others are more appealing.

Chambard (FR) Won the Kim Muir and the Becher Chase over these fences in December. However, his revised mark seems enough to halt him in competitive contests since, so it’s best to look elsewhere.

Kitty’s Light Signed off last season with an exceptional hat-trick including victory in the Scottish Grand National. While underfoot conditions may not be ideal the more the ground dries the more his chance improves. This has clearly been the target since and looked to be coming to hand when finishing midfield at Cheltenham last time. He’d be the most heart-warming of winners if successful and hits all the right trends.
