However, he must overcome a subpar performance in the Stewards’ Cup in his recent outing however the ground was not to his liking that day and he can be forgiven that effort.. In the context of this race, he has previously secured a respectable fourth and fifth place in two attempts, down to a mark of 96 and looks fair each way value.

The Acomb Stakes often serves as a promising launching pad for horses entering their classic year, as demonstrated by last season’s victor, Chaldean. While Ballymount Boy sets the initial benchmark, my preference leans towards the contender from Ballydoyle, Edwardian. Ridden by Ryan Moore, this colt secured a second-place finish in his debut at Tipperary, then demonstrated progress by clinching victory in a Maiden race at Naas in his subsequent outing.

Although the win at Naas wasn’t exceptionally flashy, it hinted at significant potential for this horse to excel when given a longer distance.  Now, moving up by 2 furlongs to the 7-furlong distance of the Acomb Stakes, the conditions appear tailor-made for him, a notion supported by visual observations. While an improvement is necessary to contend in this competitive field, the extended test of endurance in this stiffer contest could unlock even greater potential.

Turning attention to Continuous, the signs of promise were evident with wins in both of his 2-year-old starts: a maiden at the Curragh and a Group 3 race (1 mile) at Saint-Cloud. Following an encouraging return in the Dante, he quickly rebounded from a disappointing French Derby performance with a second-place finish to King of Steel at Royal Ascot (12 furlongs, good to firm) in his most recent outing. With his consistent trajectory, he remains a strong contender.

With just four contenders lining up for one of the prestigious races on the British Flat calendar, a golden opportunity awaits Paddington to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Giant’s Causeway. This remarkable horse secured victory in 2000 after triumphing in the St James’s Palace, Eclipse, and Sussex Stakes. Striking similarities emerge between Paddington and Giant’s Causeway, as Paddington thrives at the highest level of competition. Having secured his debut win in this domain at Killarney (16.8 furlongs) in May, Grappa Nonino recently returned to winning ways in a large-field event at the Curragh (14 furlongs) just ten days ago. Despite carrying a penalty, he could be very well treated and cannot be underestimated.
