Yesterday all focus was on sunny and beautiful Monte Carlo, not only the weather was of high quality but also the tennis. Early on in the day we saw Francisco Cerundolo upset Cameron Norrie in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Also Stan Wawrinka turned back time for a bit to beat Tallon Griekspoor 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, if he can build on that performance he will be tough to beat in the coming rounds. Matteo Berrettini has had a very rough time in recent months due to injury and the difficult road back on tour but the 6-4. 6-2 win over Maxime Cressy can give him a big boost for the upcoming matches and tournaments. Probably the most disappointed player was veteran Andy Murray after a one side match against Alex De Minaur which the Australian won 6-1, 6-3. Murray was visibly down and admitted that this was one of his worst matches especially after the work he put in, and he needs to talk to his team concerning his future. One of the last matches of the day featured Richard Gasquet who took on Dominic Thiem in a highly anticipated encounter. A long battle was expected as both are trying to regain some better form but it seemed like the Austrian found that form first as it was a display similar to the ones when he was in the Top 5 of the world. He ended up being too strong for Gasquet and won 6-1, 6-4.
Today we will have the opportunity to enjoy another full day Masters 1000 tennis in Monte Carlo and here are my predictions for the day:
Sonego 2-0 Humbert
Kecmanovic to beat Musetti
Draper to beat Kurkacz
Rublev 2-0 Munar
Ruusuvuori to beat Lehecka
