With only 32 left in the draw yesterday things started to get more spicy and we saw some hard fought matches with 6 out of the 8 matches going to 3 sets. The first match of the day saw a spirited Alexander Shevchenko take on Daniil Medvedev and the youngster was quick out of the blocks taking the first set 6-4. Medvedev as expected fought back winning the second set 6-1 with some good returning and great defending and consistency. The third set both players gave it their all but it was the experience that made all the difference with Medvedev taking the decider 7-5. Jan-Lennard Struff continued his consistent and strong clay season campaign with a 3 set win over another on form player Dusan Lajovic with the final score being 6-7, 6-3, 6-3. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Bernabe Zapata Miralles set up a match in the last 16 against each other both winning in 3 sets against Baez and Safiullin respectively. Yesterday we also got to see some history made with world number 99 Zhizhen Zhang becoming the first Chinese man into the last 16 of a Masters 1000 event.

Taylor Fritz is finding his feet on clay week after week and a straight sets 6-1, 7-6 win against a tricky opponent like Cristian Garin is proof of this. Fritz’s compatriot Francis Tiafoe did not fare as well as he lost to Pedro Cachin 6-1, 7-6 and needs to work hard as Clay is still his weakest surface with only one career win so far at Roland Garros.
Today we have some very interesting matches to look forward to with the pick of the day being Carlos Alcaraz taking on Alexander Zverev!
Here are my predictions for today:
Khachanov to beat Rublev
Medvedev 2-0 Karatsev
Cachin to beat Struff
Altmaier to win a set vs Munar
Coric to win a set vs Davidovich Fokina
