Football Tips Today: Weekend Fixtures and How to Pick the Market
Football tips today are only worth following if they name the market, the evidence and what would change the view. Here are the weekend fixtures, the checks for each and a worked odds example.
Choose the market that matches your actual view: result, double chance, handicap, goals, BTTS or player.
Convert odds to implied probability (1 divided by decimal odds) and compare it with your own estimate. Manchester City at 1.21 implies about 82.6%, so you need them to win about five times in six just to break even.
A tipster’s record only means something with published odds and a large sample. Over 100 bets, a 58% hit rate at evens can easily be luck.
FBref removed xG in January 2026; Understat, FotMob and SofaScore are current free alternatives.
Football tips today are only useful if they name the market, show the evidence and say what would make the pick wrong. This guide gives you the Premier League fixtures coming up this weekend with the checks that matter for each, plus a repeatable method and a worked odds example you can apply to any match.

How do you build football tips today for any match?
Work through the same short routine for every game: shortlist, read the evidence, check team news, choose the market and test the price, then note what would change your mind. The steps are in the graphic below.
The last step is the one most people skip. Write down one factor that would change your view, such as a missing striker or a changed formation, and re-check it close to kick-off.
How it works
Five steps to a reasoned football tip
1Shortlist the fixturesOnly games where form, lineups and context give you something to work with.
2Read the evidenceResults, xG, home and away split, and opponent strength.
3Check team newsInjuries, suspensions and likely lineups, judged by role and replacement.
4Choose market and test the priceConvert odds to implied probability and compare with your estimate.
5Note what would change your viewRe-check close to kick-off and drop the bet if the assumptions fail.
Repeat for each fixture, and skip the game if the evidence does not separate the teams.Best Bet Guide
Which football market suits your view?
Pick the market that matches what you actually believe about the game, not the one with the biggest price. A match-winner view and a goals view are different views, and the market should say which one you hold.
Market
Fits when you believe…
Check first
1X2 (match result)
One side is clearly stronger, or a draw is likely. Settles on 90 minutes plus stoppage time.
Whether the price already reflects the gap between the teams.
Double chance
A team should avoid defeat but may not win. It covers two of the three results, so the price is shorter.
Whether the shorter odds still leave any value.
Handicap
A strong favourite wins, but the straight price is too short. The handicap gives one side a goal head start or deficit.
The exact handicap and how a draw on the handicap settles.
Over/under goals
Your read is about the total, such as an open game or a cagey one. 2.5 is the usual line.
Both sides’ chance creation and concessions, not just recent scorelines.
Both Teams to Score (BTTS)
Each side can create chances and neither defends them well.
Missing strikers or a first-choice goalkeeper.
Anytime goalscorer
A named player will start and get chances.
Your bookmaker’s rules if the player does not start.
Correct score
One specific scoreline. This is much narrower than a result bet.
The odds are long for good reason.
Related selections often rest on the same assumption. A team win plus over goals, for example, both need that team to control an open game, so they are not separate confirmation of one view.
Read the settlement terms too. Regular-time markets usually exclude extra time, and qualification markets in cup ties ask a different question from the 90-minute result.
How do you turn football odds into probability?
Divide 1 by the decimal odds to get the probability the price implies. Odds of 2.00 imply 50%, before the bookmaker’s margin is taken into account.
US-style prices work differently. A positive number such as +115 is the profit on a 100 stake, so the implied probability is 100 divided by (115 + 100). A negative number such as -475 is the stake needed to win 100, so it is 475 divided by (475 + 100). The table shows Saturday’s listed prices on ESPN’s schedule, which carries DraftKings lines in American odds; prices move, so treat them as a worked example.
Listed price
Decimal
Implied probability
Chelsea +115 (at Everton)
2.15
46.5%
Brentford +140 (v Liverpool)
2.40
41.7%
Fulham -140 (v Hull City)
1.71
58.3%
Manchester City -475 (v Ipswich Town)
1.21
82.6%
Now test a price against your own estimate. At -475, a 100 stake on City wins about 21 in profit, so you need City to win roughly five times in six to break even. If you rate City at 85%, the expected return is about +3 per 100 staked (0.85 x 21.05 minus 0.15 x 100). If you rate them at 80%, it is about -3.
That is the point: a 2.6 percentage-point gap between your estimate and the price decides whether a very likely result is worth backing. One piece of team news can erase it.
Each price above is one outcome of three, so it includes margin. Using made-up prices for illustration, 1.21 for the home win, 7.00 for the draw and 13.00 for the away win imply 82.6%, 14.3% and 7.7%. That adds up to 104.6%, and the extra 4.6 points is the bookmaker’s margin.

How can you tell a good football tipster from a lucky one?
A good tipster publishes every selection with the odds taken, before kick-off, over a large enough sample to separate skill from luck. A screenshot of winners proves nothing.
Break-even rate: at average odds of 1.50 a tipster must win 66.7% of bets to break even, at 2.00 it is 50%, and at 3.00 it is 33.3%.
Sample size: over 100 bets at a true 50% strike rate, luck alone moves the result by about 5 percentage points either way, so a 58% run is well within chance.
Odds taken: tips quoted at a price you could not get when you saw them are not a fair record.
Reasoning: a pick that names the market, the evidence and the risk beats a bare team name. Our Tipster Talk section shows our tipsters’ reasoning in the same way.
Where can you find xG and team news?
Expected goals (xG) measures the quality of chances a team creates and allows, and it is the quickest check on whether results are flattering a team. Free sources include Understat, FotMob and SofaScore.
FBref was the go-to free source until January 2026, when it removed its advanced stats, including xG, after Opta’s data feed was terminated. It still holds basic results and lineups, but older guides that send you there for xG are out of date.
For team news, use the clubs’ own channels and confirmed lineups. A rumour about a striker is not the same as a team sheet.
What do team news and tactics change?
Team news changes the market you choose more often than it changes the result you expect. Judge an absence by the player’s role and the quality of the replacement.
Missing first-choice striker: weakens an over-goals or BTTS case.
Missing key defender or goalkeeper: can make a goals market more attractive and a clean sheet less likely.
Rest days and travel: raise the chance of rotation and lower intensity late on.
Pressing and defensive line: a high press creates transition chances, while a deep block cuts space behind and can slow a game.
Early goals matter for in-play decisions. In a study of the 2018/19 Bundesliga season, the team that scored first won 204 of 289 matches with at least one goal, or 70.6%. That is one league and one season, and you only know who scored first after the fact, so it is not a pre-match pick.
Which league guides help with football tips?
Use competition guides for background, then justify each selection with the fixture itself. No league is automatically easy to predict, and form in one competition does not transfer cleanly to another.
The most common mistake is backing a team because it is in form without asking whether the price already assumes that. The others are easy to avoid once you know them.
Reading one score as a trend: a 5-1 or a 3-0 is one game. Check xG before changing your view of a side.
Stacking the same view: a win and over 2.5 goals in one game both need the same thing to happen.
Ignoring the price: a very likely result can still be poor value at 1.21.
Betting before lineups: a pick made on Thursday may rest on a player who does not start on Saturday.
Chasing losses: a bigger bet on the next game does not fix the last one.

Frequently asked questions
What are the best football tips today?
The best tips show the market, the evidence and what could change the view, not just a team name. Our Bet of the Day page covers daily selections, and this guide shows how to test any tip yourself.
Which football market is safest?
No market is safe. Double chance covers two of three results so it wins more often, but the shorter odds mean you need to be right more often to break even.
How do I work out implied probability from football odds?
Divide 1 by the decimal odds. Odds of 2.00 imply 50%, and 1.21 implies about 82.6%, before the bookmaker’s margin.
Where can I find xG stats now that FBref has removed them?
Understat, FotMob and SofaScore all show xG free of charge. FBref removed its advanced stats in January 2026 but still lists results and lineups.
When should I re-check a football tip?
Re-check after confirmed lineups, usually around an hour before kick-off, and after any late injury, suspension or weather change that alters the assumptions behind the pick.
Does the team that scores first usually win?
Often, yes. One Bundesliga season study found the first scorer won 70.6% of matches that had a goal. You only know who scores first once the game is under way, so it helps in-play, not pre-match.
